This policy replaces and supersedes any policy or procedure related to the previous Youth Group Program.

Education Programs

Whitby Courthouse Theatre has two education program streams, WCT Kids and WCT Teens, that receive the same professional workshops but at levels tailored to their specific age groupings, as detailed later in this policy. These programs operate within a 10-week fall session.

WCT Kids

No audition is required to participate in WCT Kids. The program is limited to 20 Kids, aged 8 to 12 years, who have paid the program fee as detailed in the Finance Policy, or met exemption criteria under the Financial Aid policy.

The 10-week education program runs from the first Saturday following Thanksgiving and runs each Saturday from 9am to 11am, except weeks nine and 10 which run from 9am to 1pm.

WCT Teens

No audition is required to participate in WCT Teens. The program is limited to 20 Teens aged 13 to 17 years, who have paid the program fee as detailed in the Finance Policy, or met exemption criteria under the Financial Aid policy.

The 10-week education program runs from the first Saturday following Thanksgiving and runs each Saturday from 11am to 1pm, except weeks nine and 10 which run from 9am to 1pm.

Professional Workshops

Workshops for WCT Kids and WCT Teens are to be led by industry professionals, who will be compensated in accordance with the workshop pay schedule, available in the Finance Policy. The Education Director, or any direct relative, may not be compensated for work related to this program.

T-Shirts

Participants of WCT Kids and WCT Teens shall receive a single program-branded t-shirt.

Showcase

WCT Kids and WCT Teens shall present a joint showcase on the evening of week 10. Participation in this showcase is voluntary, but all members are encouraged to participate. The Education Director is responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and working with WCT Kids and WCT Teens on the showcase which shall be free to those who wish to attend. Content of the showcase shall be tailored to education and be an extension of learning throughout the program.

While WCT Kids and WCT Teens are separate programs, they are intended to follow the same structure and receive instruction from the same professionals tailored to their respective levels. The program follows the following structure:

*Two weeks within the seven, are to be on a specialist theatre related topic at the discretion of the Education Director. The remaining five workshops are Acting, Choreography, Vocal, Technical, and Auditioning.
